This is what a banned site looks like:

I usually catch up on my friends’ blogs on Bloglines. While going through Balbir’s feed, who does not have a full text feed, I opened the permalink to read the complete entry and the page timed out. I thought it was a one-off thing, and a few feeds down the line, I noticed mentioning that Google’s Blogger was blocked in India. Weirdness. I quickly checked with my Cosmopod account, from where I was still able to access Blogger. Then I came to Jace’s post and it finally sunk in: the Department of Telecommunications has directed ISPs to block BlogSpot and TypePad, and many of them have followed it.
The latest news on this is that “Some SIMI activits were found using blogs to communicate and organise,” according to a comment left on Jace’s blog. Amusing, to say the least. And GeoCities has taken a hit as well.
Update 19 July 14:30: metblogs.com seems to be blocked as well.
