  • C++BuilderX: buggy?

    Posted on January 29th, 2005 Sandeep No comments

    Anyone use Borland’s C++BuilderX anytime for mobile development? I installed it a couple of weeks back after downloading it from their site. It sometimes closes tabs without my intervention. Yeah, including tabs where I am editing code. As soon as I switch to another tab, the previous one magically closes. Thankfully I have not lost much (I have this habit – rather OCD – of hitting Ctrl+S before switching tabs).

    I’ve been a fan of Borland’s products right from the Turbo C days. C++BuilderX is neat… hope they get rid of such annoying bugs soon.

    In other news, BeautifulSoup works on PyS60. So I hacked a quick little app to get currency rates from http://www.x-rates.com/ and display the exchange rates for INR.

    Yes, the Nokia 7710 is available in India.

    No, I’m not buying it. WAY over my budget.

  • Stealing content for ads?

    Posted on January 24th, 2005 Sandeep No comments

    Suppose you are quoting on someone else’s blog post or news article (let’s not consider if it’s with or without permission for now), if you quoted enough information to lead AdSense (if you use it) to generate ads based on that content, would it be considered stealing?

    Sometimes, when you quote someone, a visitor to your site may choose to just read the quote without visiting the source, leading to a (potential) loss of revenue to the original author, assuming she was running AdSense as well. It’s like when people started fearing that after 6A bought LiveJournal, LJ would be plastered with ads.

    I use Adblock, so I don’t see the ads on most pages anyway. Just for kicks, here’s the current browser statistics. Firefox is at an impressive 19.1% (and Mozilla at 4%).

    I’d love to buy the Mac Mini, but by the time it hits Indian shores, it might be outdated. We do have an Apple store in Bangalore, but owing to the high costs of Apple’s devices, Jace informed me the other day that they are now selling a lot of other (read non-Apple) stuff. Heh.

    I had not publicized this earlier, but hey, it’s never too late ;-)

    If you are looking for Perl training in Bangalore, drop me a line.

    EDIT: I no longer live in Bangalore, sorry!

  • Google and PageRank

    In the past week, I had come across several blog posts talking about their updated PageRanks. I checked mine, and whaddaya know… Techbook actually notched up one more point: it’s now a PR6 page.

    But then, as we know, PageRank is dead. ;-)

  • feedparser on 3650: No go

    Posted on January 7th, 2005 Sandeep No comments

    So yeah, I tried to get feedparser to work on my Nokia 3650, but to no avail. As soon as I do an

    import feedparser

    , it comes out with a MemoryError. I half expected this, I guess, given 3650′s tiny amount of memory.

    All you lucky 6600/7610 owners, if you get it working, please let me know.

    Sigh.
